- "It doesn't matter whether or not you agree with the end result, you simply can't deny that it was a turning point in galactic history: it was also a bloody repeat. The krogan were the heroes in one story, and enemies in the next. It was only natural that the salarians would once again come to the rescue with yet another unorthodox method that will come to bite everyone in the ass later. Just typical."

The Krogan Rebellions, also known as the Krogan-Council War, the Wars of the Renegade, the Krogan Wars and sometimes but rarely as the Sixty Years War, was a galaxy-wide major conflict between the Citadel Council and the Tuchankan Empire that begun in 700 CE and continued as late as 764 CE. A military escalation of the Renegade Crisis, the events and situation leading up to the Rebellions had been festering for decades beforehand due to the actions of the krogan warlord Moro, also known as "the Renegade", who made a reputation for himself by aggressively claiming worlds by the hundreds, with the Council fearing that the krogan policy of "Jebreksad", which purported that krogan population growth would necessitate constantly claiming new lands, would cause them to expand into Council-held territories. Krogan expansionism, xenophobia and ethnic purity meant that the krogan were constantly at odds with the Council, often provoking them into standoffs, blockades and minor skirmishes. A short border conflict with the quarians was seen as a probing action by the krogan to see if the galaxy was ready for war, and the annexation of two colonies originally claimed by the quarians led to the Council ordering the quarians to stand down and give up the colonies peacefully, not wanting to escalate the crisis.
Eventually, krogan sights landed on Council-held territory, and after several annexations of asari and salarian worlds, Moro demanded the asari colony of Lusia, believing the Council would back down as they had before. The Council summoned Moro to the Citadel, where the asari councilor Keluch D'naius made it clear the Council would not back down if the krogan attempted to annex Lusia, refusing to budge one more inch. Moro instead laughed, giving his famous "I dare you to take it" speech before the assembly and storming out. The krogan shortly thereafter annexed Lusia, keeping their promise. The Council kept theirs and retaliated in a series of hard-hitting pre-emptive strikes meant to take the krogan off balance, kick starting the war. For the first days of the war, only the asari and salarians were involved in the conflict, although the hanar and quarians would join the war only after the krogan declared war on them.
The conflict saw many galactic developments, including the formation of the Special Tactics and Recon branch of the Citadel, the arrival of the turians on the galactic scene, the first and last deployment of a Council-sanctioned biological weapon strike as well as the drafting of the Citadel Conventions. The war ended after the Fall of Tuchanka, following the deployment of the genophage two years earlier.
The results of the Rebellions continue to be reflected today, none more prevalent than krogan hatred and bitterness towards salarians and turians. The genophage would remain pertinent until June 21, 2186 CE, when it was finally cured.
