The Commando Corps of the Asari Republics (CCAR), commonly referred to as the Commando Corps and colloquially known as the Asari Commandos, was an independent special operations branch of the Armed Forces of the Asari Republics, and one of the four uniformed services of the Asari Republics. Inspired by the exploits of the Commando Corps of Teukria during the Enlightenment of Thessia, the asari commandos were formed from veterans of this elite organization to bring them onto the galactic stage and to specialize them in fighting the enemies of the asari people. First formed in 703 BCE, the asari commandos began their existence as a special operations unit of the Navy of the Republics, becoming one of the most specialized and multi-purpose combat units in the entire Asari Republics, with their training and methodology eclipsing those of its compatriots, as it was dedicated to creating the most elite and powerful warriors in not just the asari military, but the entire galaxy. By the time the Terminus Revolutions ended, the asari commandos were respected and feared throughout the galaxy as a lethal, professional and Tier 1 special operations unit, one of few to earn that distinction: shortly after the Rachni Wars ended, the Senate passed the Commando Corps of Thessia Branch Separation Act (2) which splintered off the commandos from the Navy to become their own branch. Even after the Asari Republics largely downsized the usage of its military and focused all of its time on cultural and political issues, the asari commandos remained a powerful symbol of asari supremacy, and entire governments and even criminal organizations lived in fear of the commandos being unleashed upon them, knowing their success rate was impeccable and their skills in combat unmatched, and worse still, they were some of the most gifted and skilled biotics in all of asari society, an exemplar of the asari mastery of biotics.
The renown of the asari commandos earned them a fierce reputation as the most elite special operations unit in the galaxy, and many coveted their skills. Commandos who retired or left the military would sometimes be hired by mercenary groups looking to make use of their skill set, unleashing them on their competition or suffering the unfortunate fate of being overthrown by said commando who then founded their own criminal empire out of the ruins of the last. Asari spectres were often chosen from the ranks of commandos, and many famous matriarchs/asari councilors had also served as commandos themselves. The presence of commando units was seen as a harbinger of danger, and commando bodyguard units was usually indicative of the importance of their cargo or the person they escorted. Overall, asari commando skill was unparalleled, and their usage as the primary tool of asari military policy post-Krogan Rebellions comes as no surprise, and proved genuinely effective during peacetime.
The Commando Corps saw extensive action for the first time during the Rachni Wars, and again during the Krogan Rebellions, where they proved more effective and were used extensively to raid important krogan military installations or to assassinate powerful krogan warlords to undermine their leadership and encourage succession conflicts. After they were used to maintain peace within their own borders and without, although they once again would be deployed extensively during the Asari-Vorcha War and Enael conflict. A rogue unit of asari commandos that served as Benezia M'Soni's bodyguards would join Saren Arterius in 2183 CE during the Eden Prime War, but would later be absolved of their treason when it was discovered they had been indoctrinated, and were eventually all killed at the Battle of Peak 15. Asari commandos were deployed in full during the Reaper War where they suffered heavy casualties, with much of the branch severely reduced in strength by the end of the conflict. They enjoyed far more extensive success during the Post-Apocalyptic War, but they were unable to stave off the inevitable asari military defeat, and what was left of their branch was forced to surrender after the nuclear annihilation of Thessia. They were subsequently dissolved after the war.
