A brief rachni attack on Tuchanka results in devastation for the rachni: one of their first major terrestrial defeat in the Wars, and not the last. This would be the last time the rachni launched an offensive during the Wars. | |||||||||||||||||

- "Over a thousand years ago, the rachni ravaged our galaxy. We activated a relay we shouldn't have. We unleashed an enemy of the likes we had never seen before. We were losing and negotiation was impossible. In the end, we made the only choice left open to us: fight a formidable foe with your own formidable creation. And so it was that the salarians made their first mistake: uplifting the krogan."
- — An asari lecturer at Armali University.
The Rachni Wars, also known as the Council-Rachni Wars and rarely as the Ninmah Wars, were a galaxy-wide series of conflicts between the Citadel Council and the First Rachni Collective that began in 1 CE and lasted until 53 CE. The war began with the War of Relay 628 and ended at the Purging of Suen in the Krogan-Rachni War, nineteen years after the salarians uplifted the krogan, using them as weapons against the rachni. With excessive brutality and ruthless precision, the krogan pushed back the rachni and took the fight to their home turf, utterly wiping out the rachni. It was a strongly held belief that the rachni were rendered extinct after the wars, but as was discovered in 2183 CE (over a thousand years later), this was hardly the case.
