"Don't let their appearance fool you: these beasts are smart. Deadly. Tenacious. Resourceful and numerous, the rachni were known as boogeymen of the galaxy: before the Reapers, they had been the greatest threat the galaxy had ever seen."
— Human historian.

Rachni (Latin: Tenebrae Reptilia, literally meaning "dark crawlers") are a sentient/sapient organic quadpedal species native to their former homeworld of Suen and of the insecta classification. Achieving interstellar travel in 5234 BCE, the rachni rapidly expanded to thousands of worlds before they encountered the Citadel Council, where they were driven to the point of extinction. The rachni were initally seen as hostile and territorial, but have since been found to be peaceful and culturally vibrant, but capable of mustering extreme military might where possible to defend themselves.
