The Army of Palaven, also referred to as the Hierarchy Army and simply the Turian Army to aliens, was the land service branch of the Armed Forces of Palaven and its Colonies, and one of the six uniformed services of the Turian Hierarchy. The Army of Palaven was formed as the successor to the defunct Imperial Army in 341 BCE, with the branch benefitting from the same military reforms that Mameruns Posion had instituted in the final years of its predecessor, reforms that were then perfected by standardizing equipment, training and logistics across the Army to shape it into the land infantry branch the new Turian Armed Forces required. Having been the primary offensive instrument of Posion's reconquest of Palaven's colonies and helping him return them to the fold, the Army of Palaven had been one of the first branches Posion had prioritized in his new turian military, restoring the respect and discipline the Army had once had prior to the original Turian Empire's decline by making it the Hierarchy's most powerful branch. This was achieved by grantly expanding its size and funding after the Unification War, with the Army becoming the largest branch of the entire turian military in terms of personnel, granting it unmatched strength on land against the Hierarchy's enemies, allowing it the strength and power to assert land dominance during wartime and protect Hierarchy territory against hostile invasion. While lacking the mobility and quick strike capability of the Marine Corps of Palaven, the Army made up for this with numbers, massive firepower, heavy armor divisions and squadrons of gunships and ground attack aircraft. By the end of the Krogan Rebellions, the Army had a well established reputation of being the hammer and anvil of the turian military: members of the army often joked that "the marines soften up the enemy, we pound them into oblivion from the get go." This contributed to the Army's motto, "will of the steel", which represented the Army's "no defeat, no retreat" philosophy.
The Army of Palaven saw extensive action throughout its long history, with conflicts such as the Krogan Rebellions, Terminus Revolutions, Taetrian Civil War, Enael conflict, War on Taetrus, Reaper War and Post-Apocalyptic War being the most well known among them. With the dissolution of the Turian Hierarchy in 2215 CE following the Post-Apocalyptic War, the Army of Palaven was dissolved with it, although it would later be reborn as the New Imperial Army of Palaven in 2253 CE following the Dominion Civil War.
