CAW Xanatos was a Chupacabra-class corvette in the Cerberus Navy. The two hundred and forty-first ship of her class to be built, the corvette didn't yet have a name at the time of its construction, known simply by its hull classification number of "FA-241", and like all the other Gargoyle-class ships, was intended for service with the Alliance Navy when the First Contact War broke out. After the war, the poor performance of the Gargoyle-class led to the Alliance decommissioning their entire fleet, setting them aside in favor of the newer and improved Mermaid-class. FA-241 was left dormant and inactive, and it was eventually sold to Cerberus through one of its suppliers and financiers, Cord-Hislop Aerospace: the ship was then rearmed, had several improvements made to its structure to remove the issues the Alliance had with it, and reintroduced as the Xanatos within their navy, which at the time was only just beginning to take shape as the organization grew and expanded. The Xanatos was made part of the 6th Light Strike Group, along with four other corvettes of its class, placing it under the command of the Ares Cell to support their scientific operations. In 2171 CE, the Xanatos and its strike group infiltrated Hegemony space and deployed a commando squad on Aratoht to locate and extract a high-level batarian military official, the mission of which was successful, with the Xanatos pulling out shortly afterwards and the batarian official being tortured and interrogated: not long after, Cerberus detonated a bomb at Balak Uhtero's villa, killing both of his wives and children and several other family members in retaliation for the Sack of Mindoir the year before, although they never assumed responsibility. Later, in 2178 CE, the Xanatos was part of a covert Cerberus expedition onto the then-abandoned Torfan to extract abandoned batarian equipment and intelligence for use in studying the Hegemony and its regime, ideological beliefs, military capabilities, technology and more: the Xanatos was able to disguise itself as a scavenger's skiff, and quickly left the area when an Alliance vessel detected its presence and moved to investigate.

In 2183 CE, the Xanatos accompanied the 6th LSG as it protected an Ares Cell operation on the MSV Fedele, with the aim of producing an army of rachni that could be tamed and controlled. The operation was thwarted on the 28th of June with the intervention of the SSV Normandy, boarding the vessel and deploying a squad to clear out the ship. The Xanatos helped to ambush the stealth frigate, hoping to take it by surprise and disable the ship so it could be boarded, but the Normandy was able to swiftly disengage from the freighter and activate its stealth drive, confusing the Xanatos and its crew. Unable to find its adversary and outmatched by the state-of-the-art warship, the Xanatos was destroyed by the Normandy in the ensuing engagement, impacted by a concentrated burst from the ship's forward defense guns.

The ship was named after David Xanatos, a villain in the popular children's cartoon Gargoyles from the late 20th Century on Earth.
