SSV Normandy SR-1 (Stealth Reconnaissance-1) was a Normandy-class stealth frigate in the Alliance Navy. It was the head of its class, and the most advanced warship in not just the Alliance Navy, but in any galactic military, in 2183 CE. The ship was commanded by David Anderson briefly, but then command was passed over to its XO, Lieutenant Commander Marcus Shepard. It served a major role in the Eden Prime War, where it would be famously known as the ship to destroy Sovereign. Following the war, it took part in post-war cleanup operations of remnant geth forces and, over the course of a month, would defeat terrorist attacks, launch raids and attacks on Cerberus bases, eliminate mercenary and pirate groups, and even took part in a small conflict on the planet Anhur. At this point, the ship became famous around the galaxy due to its widespread travel, and this made it one of the most well travelled and active vessels in the Alliance Navy at the time. The ship met its end not long after however when it was ambushed by a Collector cruiser over Alchera while investigating geth activity in the region. The ship was destroyed in the ensuing attack, with a quarter of its crew, including Commander Marcus L. Shepard himself, being killed. The ship's wreck was later rediscovered in 2185 CE by Shepard himself on the planet Alchera, and despite weather conditions, the wreck was largely intact, and a memorial now rests there. Her successor, the CAW Avenger, was renamed the "Normandy" in her honor.
The ship was named after the Battle of Normandy of the Second World War.
