Pluto is the ninth planet in the Sol system of the Local cluster. Located right on the edge of the Sol system, it is orbitted by numerous orbital gun platforms, and the Second Fleet constantly maintains a presence around the planet. Pluto is also well known for being the location of the Charon relay, and was the location of a battle during the First Contact War

Pluto didn't stand a chance when the Reapers invaded. When the Reapers jumped into the system, they were able to immediately get the jump on the Alliance battlegroup orbitting the planet, quickly wiping them out and destroying any stations left in orbit. Pluto was the first planet to fall in the Reaper invasion of the Sol system during the Reaper War. It was heavily fortified as a system perimeter patrol world prior to the Post-Apocalyptic War, defending it from invasion by New Council forces. During the Dominion Civil War, Pluto was captured by the Dominion Dissident Front, which allowed them to restrict the flow of Dominion reinforcements to Earth, turning the tide of the Terran theater of the conflict.

The planet is named after one of the Roman deities of the ancient Roman pantheon known as Pluto, who was ruler of the underworld in Roman mythology.
