"Yes, General Williams can be chastized for being the first human general to surrender a colony to an alien force, but Fleet Admiral Garrong can be applauded for being the first human admiral to kick the ass of an alien force."
— Former Captain Ronald Carnie, SSV Essendon.

The Battle of Charon, alternatively known as the Battle of Pluto or Battle of Sol, was a large-scale naval engagement by forces of the Turian Hierarchy and the Systems Alliance during the First Contact War. It was the Alliance's first victory since the Skirmish at Relay 314, as well as their first major victory against an alien force. The battle saw Joseph H. Garrong heralded as a hero, promoted to Fleet Admiral of the Navy and given command of the entire Alliance military. The battle also gave the Alliance a much needed morale boost, allowing Garrong to go forth with his proposed Shanxi campaign.

Thirty years after the battle, turian historians have looked back at the battle as having been an impressive show of tactical skill, as the turians had been expecting a primitive foe. Even Raeli Septimus, now retired, said that Garrong was "his most difficult opponent" and one he "respects even to this day."
