"To serve a student population demonstrating excellence and passion for mathematics, science, and the liberal arts. Our best, our brightest."
— An excerpt of Jon Grissom's speech at the official opening of the eponymous Academy.

Jon Grissom Academy, shortened to Grissom Academy, was a space station in the Vetus system of the Petra Nebula, orbiting Elysium, and one of the premiere education facilities in the Systems Alliance. Construction of the station began in 2170 CE, and was completed in 2176 CE a mere sixteen days before the batarians would attack Elysium, and would be opened by Jon Grissom himself, the Alliance hero whom the academy had been named for. The station was owned by the Alliance education department, and sported a range of high-level educational programs and facilities that aimed to help hone a student's intellect and enhance career opportunities: admission into the academy required a high academic score, and those who went there chose to live on the station. As such, the academy's pool of participants was greatly smaller. The academy would later be home to the Ascension program following legislative reform within the Alliance in regard to the treatment of biotics, offering opportunities to biotics, both military and civilian, to control their abilities and use them for good. The Ascension program was deemed a galaxy-class training program, and washed away the embarassment and poor quality of the earlier attempts at biotic training that were conducted on Gagarin Station.

Following the Fall of Earth, Jon Grissom Academy was ordered to evacuate most of its students and teaching staff, although members of the Ascension program, including students, remained behind to run drills and exercises for their eventual military deployment which they volunteered for. Cerberus would later board and occupy the station, wanting to abduct the Ascension project students and use them for their own biotic shock troop research. Following the successful evacuation of the Ascension project students by the Normandy Squad, the Reapers would later arrive in the system and, during their invasion of Elysium, would destroy the station. The station's facilities would be rebuilt, but instead as part of the gargantuan Epitaph Station, and not as its own space station.
