SSV Hong Kong HD-11 (Heavy Defense-11) was a Melbourne-class heavy frigate in the Alliance Navy. The eleventh ship of the class to be built, the Hong Kong was assigned to the Fifth Fleet under Admiral Steven Hackett. The Hong Kong would see action during the Skyllian Blitz, where it participated in the Battle of the Dhopris System: it was also deployed as a reserve force during the Theshaca Raids to support the elements of the Fifth Fleet dedicated to countering pirate operations in the sector, but it was never needed and sat out the operation largely inactive. The Hong Kong was recalled to Shanxi to take part in the 29 December Armistice Day celebrations in 2179 CE, where the ship was chosen to host the celebrations. In 2183 CE, after the outbreak of the Eden Prime War, the Hong Kong would be present at the Battle of Armstrong, where the ship managed to destroy several geth frigates and successfully counter geth bomber attempts to overwhelm Hackett's flagship, the McKinley. The crew were just about to disembark on Mars for shore leave several weeks later when Hackett gave orders for the fleet's emergency mobilization and departure, with the crew hastily recalled. The Hong Kong was part of the first wave of Alliance reinforcements at the Battle of the Citadel, helping to destroy the geth heretic fleet and saving the ARW Destiny Ascension: the ship suffered minor damage during the first stages, with its captain being relieved of command due to injuries. The Hong Kong was one of many ships destroyed by Sovereign towards the end of the battle, being lost with all hands due to the ferocity of the Reaper's devastating defenses. The sacrifice of the Hong Kong and her crew is noted on the Heroes of the Citadel monument, along with other ships of the Fifth Fleet that were destroyed saving the Citadel.
After the battle and during cleanup operations, the wreck of the Hong Kong was discovered largely intact, with Sovereign's beam having largely cut straight down the middle of the ship, killing the crew by exposure to atmosphere and bissecting the ship in half. The ship was salvaged and later rebuilt and recommissioned back into the Alliance Navy, keeping the name. This ship then took part in the Reaper War.
The ship was named after the Battle of Hong Kong of the Second World War.
