"Be strong, Tali. Be strong for your father, and be strong for me."
— Meru'Zorah

Admiral Meru'Zorah vas Rayya (formerly known as Meru'Tinn nar Rayya and Meru'Tinn vas Rayya) was a former admiral of the Migrant Fleet, the former commanding officer of the Patrol Fleet and the 89th Shadow Broker. She was also the late mother of Tali'Zorah, at least until recently. Originally the captain of the Rayya, Meru was best friends with Shala'Raan, who at the time was a captain. During the time she was a member of Clan Tinn, she met and eventually married Rael'Zorah, joining his clan. Together, they had a daughter named Tali. At some point afterwards, when Tali was just 8 years old, a virus outbreak occured, and Meru later succumbed to it and passed away; at least, that was the initial story. In actuality, Meru had made a deal with the batarians that went awry, and asked Shala to cover up; Meru would self-exile herself, using the virus as a cover story to make sure she properly disappeared. Sometime afterwards, she became the 89th Shadow Broker, doing so until the Raid on Hagalaz dethroned her from the position, and she was reunited with her daughter. She is somewhat bitter towards her however, disappointed that Tali had turned into a soldier; this has left a gap between the two, not entirely unlike the divide between Tali and Rael. Following the Reaper War, Meru permanently retired from the military and political scene, choosing to become a teacher.
