The YMIR-class armoured-heavy assault mech (YMIR-class A-HAM), also known as the Model P or P-Frame, and more simply known as the YMIR mech or just YMIR, was one of four RAGNAROK-series mech frames manufactured by Hahne-Kedar Solutions. Following the Battle of the Citadel in 2183 CE, the RAGNAROK-series mechs were designed and built by Hahne-Kedar as one of many new types of mechanized, automated forces in the face of the rising security challenges presented by the brazen geth assault on the galaxy's seemingly impregnable capital. The RAGNAROK-series proved to be the most popular and successful, the YMIR-class was the most expensive of the four frames. The YMIR-class was a large, bipedal mech that was 12ft tall, shrouded in thick ablative armor and powerful kinetic barriers, and wielding a powerful arsenal of firepower designed for anti-armor and anti-infantry applications. The VI and CPU housing were situated in the mech's head and chest respectively, and the mechs could be programmed en masse through a central computer mainframe. Despite drawbacks regarding its lack of mobility and flexiblity, not to mention its incredibly slow movement speed, the YMIRs were designed to be walking tanks, able to sustain heavy fire and provide it, with enough firepower to eliminate an entire company of hostiles on its own: what flaws the YMIR had could be circumvented through the RAGNAROK's signature ability to be open to modification, with numerous different designs for YMIR mechs existing across the galaxy as their customers customized and modified their YMIRs to fit the different duties they were used for. One variant was the HULK-class that was stripped of its weapons and armor and refitted for heavy labor work and excavation, especially in environments that were inhospitable to organics: another was the TUSK-class, an absurdly overarmed, overarmoured behemoth used by the Hegemony Armed Forces and, later, the Joint Crusader Armed Forces, that sacrificed what little movement the YMIR had left for even thicker armor, and an array of extra armaments mounted haphazardly across its frame. Many more variants existed as well, built in varying sizes, for numerous unique duties and services. The YMIR-class mech was outfitted with a Heimdall-class VI, which Hahne-Kedar specifically designed and programmed specifically to be used as the VIs in their RAGNAROK-series frames.

As it was, the LOKI-class was used in a variety of unique roles and became a staple across the galaxy following its introduction in 2184 CE. Despite their huge size and excessive armament, YMIRs were often used by more high profile security corporations, although their role was mostly restricted to acting as a deterrent, most hoping the sight of such a tall mech armed to the teeth would be enough to dissuade any trouble. For combat and military applications, the YMIR is aptly suited, with numerous mercenary and private military corporations buying YMIRs in bulk to supplement their own infantry forces as vital strategic assets, with Eclipse sporting hundreds of thousands of YMIRs in their own arsenals: while YMIRs saw sporadic use among the Council militaries due to their inferiority to a tank and their vulnerability to airstrikes, smaller militaries such as those of the Vol Protectorate and planetary city-states in the Terminus Systems utilized YMIRs to bolster their own ground forces and act as force multipliers. A law enforcement variant of the YMIR, the CASPA-class, was used heavily by C-Sec as well as many Earth, Thessia and Palaven-based law enforcement agencies for use in riot control and high-risk situations that required heavier firepower, and thus it was modified for this role. Human colonial populations, especially those in the Terminus Systems that could not rely on the Systems Alliance for protection, would buy a small army of LOKIs to protect their colonies from attack and provide limited law enforcement and crime deterrence. YMIRs like the HULK-class were often stripped of their combat utility to be used as heavy labor units, either as excavators, heavy loaders, or toxic environmental work units. Legions of YMIRs would often be employed by corporations for either security or for use in their corporate wars, as was the case with conflicts such as the War for Garvug. The mech's name, much like all of Hahne-Kedar's mech-related products, is derived from Norse mythology, with the YMIR mech in particular being named after the primeval being, Ymir.

Like the rest of the RAGNAROK-series, the YMIR mech would continue to remain in service right up until after the Post-Apocalyptic War, although by this time it was already becoming obsolete. The Systems Alliance, and later the Systems Coalition, supplementing the losses they took in the Reaper War, employed legions of YMIR mechs. In 2218 CE, Hahne-Kedar unveiled the then-new ASGARD-series, which included the YMIR's direct successor, the ODIN-class. In 2220 CE, the YMIR-class ceased production and was fully replaced by the ODIN-class, and by 2240 CE, very few YMIRs remained in service, as it was not only cheaper to simply replace them with ODIN frames, but the parts needed to maintain them were no longer even produced by Hahne-Kedar, therefore making maintenance on the YMIRs far too cost-prohibitive to be worth keeping.
