The Onyx light combat armor was a ceramic-based protective light combat armor manufactured by Aldrin Labs. Manufactured and entering service in 2151 CE, the Onyx armor was the standard issue combat armor of the nascent Systems Alliance Army and Systems Alliance Marine Corps prior to humanity's introduction onto the galactic stage. The Onyx armor first saw action during the First Contact War where it performed adequately, but was quickly replaced by the more advanced and revolutionary HYPERION-82 post-war, with the Onyx armor being quickly decommissioned from Alliance mainline service soon after. The Onyx armor would continue to see service amongst the Systems Alliance Colonial Army and amongst PMCs and mercenaries, where it enjoyed a longer service life than it did with the Alliance marines and army. Being light armor, it had low damage protection and was outfitted with somewhat weak kinetic barriers, but was extremely flexible and lightweight. The Onyx armor was finally phased out by 2184 CE, and was eventually succeeded by the Ajax medium assault armor.
