The HYPERION-82 medium combat armor was a ceramic-based steel-plate protective medium combat armor manufactured by Lionhead Armoury. Manufactured and entering service in 2159 CE, the HYPERION-82 was the standard issue combat armor across the Systems Alliance Marine Corps and Systems Alliance Army, universally recognized as the staple armor of the Alliance military ground forces. Replacing the Onyx light combat armor originally used by the Alliance marines and army during the First Contact War, the HYPERION-82 was the first armor galaxy-wide to incorporate the universally used ceramic-based flexible hard suits with steel-plated armor, producing armor that would instead deflect impacts rather than absorb them as cermaic-based armor was designed to do, while offering the user the flexibility needed to be effective. The HYPERION-82 was synonymous with the typical Alliance soldier, an armor set that was instantly recognizable across the galaxy even without its Alliance colouring and insignia, and the armor would ultimately inspire the revolution in armor design that would follow after the Battle of the Citadel, where many, if not most, armors began adopting the combination of cermamic and steel armoured design that the HYPERION-82 had introduced. The HYPERION-82 saw extensive service throughout the Skyllian Blitz, Eden Prime War and Reaper War, and continued to do so under the Systems Coalition through the Border War and Post-Apocalyptic War, until finally being phased out for the newer HYPERION-110 model.

Many specialized variants of the HYPERION-82 would be made during its lifespan, modified for specialized roles within the Alliance military. A more lightly armoured variant would be made for use with civilian correspondents, military police and other non-critical personnel, and a special forces variant made for use by the numerous special operations groups of the Alliance's special forces division.
