The Banshee assault rifle was a fully automatic heat sink-based block-fed assault rifle manufactured by Elanus Threat Management Solutions. Manufactured and entering service in 2159 CE, the Banshee assault rifle was developed for use by security corporations and PMCs, with Elanus themselves outfitting their ERCS personnel with it. The weapon's recoil handling was very poor, which ultimately only compounded upon the weapon's extremely lackluster accuracy, with bullet spread so significant that it rendered the weapon useless in a protracted gunfight: despite this, the weapon could penetrate most medium armor, and its heat mitigation system was good for a weapon of its make. Regardless, the Banshee assault rifle fell out of favor even within ERCS very early in its life due to the aforementioned recoil and poor accuracy, and despite attempts to improve it, ERCS eventually phased out the Banshee from ERCS service, replacing it with the outsourced Breaker assault rifle from Kassa Fabrication: however, ERCS would continue to sell the Banshee to other PMC groups and eventually to the wider public as their mercenary customers also began to favor better rifles on the market. The M-15 Vindicator is ERCS' direct successor to the Banshee, although its design was more heavily inspired by that of the Crossfire assault rifle. The M-15 Vindicator was designed and built to replace the Banshee after the introduction of the thermal clip in 2184 CE following the Battle of the Citadel, which replaced block-fed weapons wholesale across the entire galaxy. The M-15 Vindicator would also enjoy far more success than the Banshee, possessing none of the flaws that ultimately brought down ERCS' original rifle.
