The Harpoon sniper rifle was a semi-automatic heat sink-based block-fed sniper rifle manufactured by Kassa Fabrication. Manufactured and entering service in 2169 CE, the Harpoon sniper rifle was a high-end sniper rifle designed to be used in a wide array of roles by mercenary companies and security corporations, but was also used by numerous interstellar militaries, among them the asari military. The weapon had excellent armor and barrier penetration, heat mitigation and accuracy, although it possessed heavy recoil, requiring a stabilization mount and limiting the mobility of any sniper using it. The Harpoon was used by numerous mercenary groups, among them the Blue Suns and Eclipse, who preferred the weapon's devastating firepower and high accuracy to other sniper rifles on the market, especially when comparing prices. The weapon was, in design, succeeded by the M-92 Mantis following the introduction of thermal clips in 2184 CE, which replaced block-fed weapons wholesale across the entire galaxy following the Battle of the Citadel. No direct successor to the Harpoon exists, with Kassa specializing in entirely in armor rather than weapons, with the exception of their famous M-12 Locust. In the asari military, the Armageddon would be replaced by the M-103 Black Widow.
