The Equalizer sniper rifle was a semi-automatic heat sink-based block-fed sniper rifle manufactured by Haliat Armory. Manufactured and entering service in 2099 CE, the Equalizer sniper rifle was designed with high quality materials to be made available at affordable prices, intended for use in home defense, civilian use and for security and mercenary contractors, but also taken aboard as the standard issue sniper rifle of the Special Tasks Group of the Salarian Union. The Equalizer was a semi-auto sniper rifle capable of a consistent, high rate of fire but with a sacrifice to accuracy over time and shorter range compared to most sniper rifles. The Equalizer's damage was high though, capable of punching through a lot of higher-range armors and this, combined with its semi-auto capabilities, is what made it useful to STG sniper teams in combat scenarios. The weapon was, in design, succeeded by the M-97 Viper following the introduction of thermal clips in 2184 CE, which replaced block-fed weapons across the entire galaxy following the Battle of the Citadel. No direct successor to the Equalizer sniper rifle exists, with Haliat Armory shifting completely to the manufacture of armors and weapon mods. With the STG, they ultimately went with the M-29 Incisor as a replacement for the Equalizer.
