The Z-016 disruptor torpedo, also known as the Javelin torpedo or simply the Javelin, was a powered projectile with a warhead that creates random and unstable mass effect fields when launched. These fields warp space-time in a localized area, meaning that when they impact against an enemy target, the rapid asymmetrical mass changes and rips them and the area apart. While capable of damaging an enemy target or ground-based installation, the disruptor designation meant it was primarily designed for stripping and disrupting enemy shields to allow for heavier payloads and ordnance to slip past their defenses. Developed by the Systems Alliance military, these weapons became standard-issue across the Systems Alliance Navy, regardless of the ship class, with SX7 Interceptors carrying at least one, and SX15 Bombers carrying an entire payload of them. They were considered so reliable that the Alliance's successor, the Systems Coalition, continued to use them in its navy right up until 2233 CE, when they were finally phased out and replaced by the Javelin B torpedo.
