Widow is a star system located in the Serpent Nebula, and the chosen seat of the Citadel Council. A star system with no planets and only one star, Widow is the most consistently occupied star system in galactic history, being the home of the Citadel, the chosen seat of thousands of galactic civilizations. Located deep within swaths of solar dust and radiation, the Widow was deemed the perfect spot to place the colossal space station, keeping it well hidden from would-be attackers, and difficult for hostile fleets to navigate. In the asari cycle, the system served as the capital of the Citadel Council and New Council, until it fell to the Galactic Dominion in the Post-Apocalyptic War. Following the formation of the Unified Galactic Republics, it has remained the capital of the Milky Way Galaxy with the Citadel's replacement, Capitol, being moved to the system to serve as the new capital. Since then, Widow has remained a core part of Milky Way governance.
