Turian Hierarchy

The Vanguard-class dreadnought was a classification of dreadnought that served in the Navy of Palaven from 2124 CE to 2191 CE, and was the successor to the Hammer-class. As dreadnoughts are the staple of the Turian Hierarchy, and their main show of force, the Vanguard-class was often a commanding sight, with many knowing that when it appeared in a system, it was preparing for combat. Agreed upon by the Council, the turians would always have at least one dreadnought in the CDF.

The Vanguard-class did not see any combat action until the First Contact War, where a few helped to pacify the colony of Shanxi as well as engage Garrong's forces at Charon. On both occassions however, the ship found itself outclassed by Alliance carriers, which demonstrated that dreadnoughts were quickly being rendered redundant in warfare, much like battleships after the invention of the missile on Earth. Despite this, the Vanguard-class continued to serve in the turian navy right up until after the Battle of the Citadel. By 2184 CE, turian understanding of thanix technology had been perfected, and shortly after, the Tribune-class dreadnought was commissioned, with the Vanguard-class continuing to serve alongside it right into the Reaper War. Six years after the war, the Tribune-class completely replaced it and it was decommissioned.
