Vamshi is a star system located in the Armstrong cluster. Vamshi is a binary star system, but it's twin stars are vastly different from each other: whereas Vamshi-A is a main sequence white dwarf, Vamshi-B is an aging red giant. The system is fairly small, and lacks the capability to support permanent civilization due to its three planets lacking any real capacity for habitation: nevertheless, pirates, slavers and mercenary bands enjoyed using the region to stage their operations, due to this very reason. A small Alliance force would be dispatched to the region prior to the Skyllian Blitz to secure it against batarian attack, and fought a few small skirmishes along its edge during the war in 2176 CE. This force would be expelled in 2183 CE by the geth heretics during the Eden Prime War, who quickly established a stronghold on Maji in preparation for an invasion of the Alliance proper. This was thwarted by the Normandy Squad however, who waged a week-long campaign and eventually kicked the geth out of the system: following the war, the Alliance tightened control over Vamshi, turning the former geth stronghold into an outpost to monitor pirate activity. When the Reapers invaded in 2186 CE, the entire cluster was swiftly abandoned.

At the height of the Galactic Dominion, the Republic of Rannoch, Systems Coalition and Tuchankan Military Confederacy co-jointly began colonization efforts across Armstrong, although Vamshi was largely left alone due to its incapatibility. Despite this, after the Dominion Civil War, the Unified Galactic Republics established numerous research posts on Maji, with the hope of terraforming it to be livable some day. That effort continues to this day.
