The Type-04 Directed Energy Pulse Rifle, more commonly known as the Geth Pulse Rifle and by specific model number as the Mark IV Pulse Rifle, was a fully automatic heat sink-based thermal clip-fed directed energy assault rifle manufactured by the Geth Armoury. Manufactured and entering service in 2035 CE, the Mark IV pulse rifle was the dedicated assault rifle of the geth military juggernaut, replacing the outdated Mark III pulse rifle with an updated design and to further reflect geth advances in technology. Already a staple of geth military power and their affinity for directed energy weapons, something the rest of the galaxy was then-far behind on, the geth pulse rifle's Mark IV iteration would be the one most well known to organics, aside from its later Mark V successor that would supplant it, as the weapon would be observed in use during the Eden Prime War where its devastating firepower proved to be superior to anything any Alliance marines were equipped with, causing geth troops armed with them to outperform marines in combat at every turn. The Mark IV came equipped with a state-of-the-art recoil dampener that removed almost all recoil from the weapon, allowing it to be fired full auto with no consequences to accuracy. The weapon's precision was near perfect, and its directed energy pulses melted through even the thickest of heavy armor, and mostly passed through kinetic barriers, rendering them useless. Another advancement of the Mark IV was its implementation of the geth's then-invention of the thermal clip, which removed the limitations of heat mitigation systems and allowed a geth unit to manually remove excess heat from their weapon instantly, effectively unleashing the full potential of the weapon and rendering block-fed weapons obsolete.

The Mark IV was the go-to weapon for the Geth Heretics in their war on the Alliance during the Eden Prime War, where many were captured by Alliance forces following the string of heretic defeats that followed the Normandy Squad's involvement. This eventually led to the rest of the galaxy adopting the geth's thermal clip invention by 2184 CE, although they were still unable to crack the more advanced mechanics behind the Mark IV. This ultimately proved moot regardless, as the geth, constantly tweaking and improving upon their designs, introduced the Mark V pulse rifle into their arsenal only a year after the Eden Prime War, which replaced the Mark IV in its entirety, although the heretics, without access to this new weapon, continued to use the Mark IV right up until their final defeat in 2185 CE. After returning to the consensus, the heretics returned the remaining Mark IVs in their possession, which were all modified and converted into Mark Vs or melted down to be used in the manufacture of other geth weaponry.
