Trakkar Capital was the capital city of Ilos under the Prothean Empire. The city began as a small military research post within the ruins of High Cathedral's southern hemisphere, the former inusannon ecumenopolis which encompassed the planet, where it would later expand into a city that utilized the ruins of the inusannon metropolis' southern hemisphere and combined them into a hybridized superstructure: the only example of it throughout the Prothean Empire. The Ilos Archives were constructed within the city to continue to study the High Cathedral ruins, discovering the remnants of a colossal space elevator and several other impressive feats of inusannon engineering: the facility was also the site for many other prothean civilian and military projects, among them the Conduit project. Trakkar Capital's existence was classified beyond top secret by the Prothean High Command, its absence from star charts saved it from being discovered by the Reapers during their invasion. Most of the population died whilst in stasis however, with the few survivors using the Conduit to get onto the Citadel, where they also later died, leaving Trakkar Capital completely abandoned for fifty thousand years.

Nature slowly reclaimed the city, leaving it just as dilapidated as its predecessor. It would be rediscovered during the asari cycle, but the planet was ceded by the Citadel Council to the Terminus Systems after the Terminus Revolutions, and so the city wouldn't see life again until the Battle of Ilos in 2183 CE, where it played a crucial role in the Reaper campaign. Following the Reaper War, Prometheus established a black site within the ruins, which would also be abandoned following the Dominion Civil War. With access to the cluster prohibited, Trakkar Capital remains abandoned to this day.
