THS Careening Light was a Century-class light cruiser in the Navy of Palaven and Citadel Defense Fleet. The eighty-third ship of its class to be built, the Careening Light was originally assigned to the Fourth Fleet under Prefect Equretia Domiraka, where it served with the Fourth Fleet for a hundred years before it was removed from the Fourth Fleet and reassigned to the Citadel, being reintroduced into the Citadel Defense Fleet and serving there for the rest of its career. The Careening Light spent most of its time in the CDF either patrolling the Widow system, enforcing customs regulations, monitoring traffic and/or running blockade against criminal ships attempting to escape C-Sec. On 5 October 2180 CE, the Careening Light was by made aware of a freighter hijacking-in-progress by a wanted scientist named Saleon Yules who took the freighter's civilian crew hostage to stop the CDF from halting his escape. The Careening Light was ordered by Garrus Vakarian to open fire on the ship, but as the Careening Light was training its weapons on the ship, Executor Venari Pallin countermanded the order, instead ordering the cruiser to pursue and board the ship to take Saleon into custody. This indecision ultimately allowed Saleon to escape, with the freighter going into FTL just as the Careening Light was laying in a pursuit course.
On 19 July 2183 CE, the Careening Light took part in the Battle of the Citadel when a massive geth heretic fleet, spearheaded by the Reaper Sovereign, launched a surprise attack on the Citadel with the aim of taking it. The Careening Light managed to survive the initial surprise attack, taking up a defensive formation around the THS Iron Conviction as it attempted to deny Sovereign and the geth fleet access to the station as its arms began to close. Despite its best efforts however, the Careening Light was destroyed by Sovereign as it rammed into and destroyed the Iron Conviction, the ship being blasted apart by one of the Reaper's thanix cannons. The sacrifice of the Careening Light and its crew are noted on the Heroes of the Citadel monument, along with the other CDF ships destroyed protecting the Citadel.
