The Spire of the New Federation is a massive spire-like structure located in the center of Alpha Center on Alpha, and was home to the Parliament of Alpha, and now the Alpha Directorate. Beginning construction in December 2221 CE, the Spire was designed to house the home of the Alpha parliament and all other government personnel of both the Alpha Republic and the Galactic Sanctum, as well as the personal apartments of the Sanctum prime minister and Alpha president. Named for the "New Federation" that was formed between the citizens of Alpha, refugees of the New Council, inhabitants of the eastern Terminus Systems and the Raloi Federation, the Spire finished construction in late 2222 CE and was the single tallest structure in Alpha at the time. Located in the center of Alpha Center where the former Horhu District was situated, and stretching all the way to the inner ceiling of the asteroid, the Spire is six kilometers tall, with 470 floors. The base of the structure was situated within the "Parliament Zone", a four block district surrounding the base of the Spire that housed a local precinct for a battalion of the Alpha Peacekeepers and numerous government buildings: the entrance led to the Commons Hall, which itself was an atrium leading into the Palace of Eden, the government building for the Alpha parliament. The building possessed a security control center for its security staff, and a crisis response center for use in managing emergencies such as fires and terrorist attacks: towards the middle were the personal apartments of the prime minister of the Sanctum and the Alpha president, although only the former were ever used due to Sata T'Loak being the only standing head of state to hold both titles. A large high-speed elevator provided easy egress along the entire spine of the structure for use by emergency, labor and security services, while a smaller personal elevator was for public use. Access to the Spire by the public was very limited outside of tours, with civilians only allowed in the Commons Hall.
Throughout the entire history of the Spire, even after the transition of the Alpha Republic into the Federation of Alpha, and the dissolution of the Galactic Sanctum, only one major attack was carried out on it on 11 June 2252 CE when members of the Covenant Sentries of Reverence organization detonated seven bombs across the Spire, inflicting heavy damage to key facilities and killing 135 people and leaving 648 injured. Damage to the Spire however was repaired in only a few months and it resumed normal operations by October of that year. Since then the Spire remains the epicenter of politics within the Alpha Federation, and is one of the most easily recognizable structures on the Alpha skyline.
