The Sokolov shotgun was a pump-action heat sink-based block-fed heavy shotgun manufactured by Rosenkov Materials. Manufactured and entering service in 2169 CE, the Sokolov shotgun was developed for use by private military corporations and independent contractors. The Sokolov shotgun was heavily favoured by krogan mercenaries and warriors, even over the Armageddon shotgun, as a single shot from a Sokolov was capable of even sending a krogan flying, and was enough to reduce a heavily armoured human to a puddle of meat and broken bones. The recoil of the weapon was massive, although the krogan mercs who used it found no problem with this, and combined with the weapon's reasonable accuracy, the Sokolov became the mainstay of the krogan arsenal, synonymous with their prowess as warriors, and was even the chosen weapon of Urdnot Wrex until just after the Eden Prime War. While entirely supplanted by the M-300 Claymore following the introduction of thermal clips in 2184 CE, the Sokolov was a huge inspiration upon the Claymore, a weapon which had existed for centuries within krogan culture but was fully modernized as a result of the krogan wishing for a proper replacement to the Sokolov. The Sokolov has no direct successor, with Rosenkov moving its production capacity solely to the manufacture of armors and to its premiere sniper rifle, the M-97 Viper.
