SSV Tsushima HD-6 (Heavy Defense-6) was a Melbourne-class heavy frigate in the Alliance Navy. The sixth ship of the class to be built, the Tsushima was assigned to the Eighth Fleet under Admiral Duncan Ward. The Tsushima often frequented the Attican Traverse as per its duties in the Eighth Fleet, spending what time it didn't spend in the Traverse at its home port of Intai'sei, either patrolling the Phoenix system or allowing its crew to visit the nearby Pinnacle Station. As a result of the entire Eighth Fleet sitting out the Skyllian Blitz, the Tsushima was not present for the conflict, including the subsequent Theshaca Raids, despite the small amount of action the Eighth Fleet during that operation: due to the lack of action the Eighth Fleet saw, it was pejoratively stuck with the stigma of being the "forgotten fleet": the captain of the Tsushima jokingly remarked that despite having served in the Alliance since its formation, he had seen as much battle as an ensign fresh out of the academy. This also contributed to the other joke that the Tsushima and the other ships of the Eighth Fleet had seen so little action that they still looked fresh out of the fleetyards. Suffice it to say, service on the Tsushima and other ships of the Eighth Fleet was seen as either a punishment or as a transitionary stage for fresh naval academy graduates. In the case of the Tsushima, then-fresh graduate Charles Pressly remarked that the atmosphere on the Tsushima was about as exciting as a "party without any of the party," and that the experience of his first posting was anything but exciting. After serving on the ship for nearly four years, he was offered a transfer to the SSV Agincourt due to exemplary performance aboard the vessel and recommendation from the captain, and he gladly accepted it. The Tsushima accompanied the Eighth Fleet on the 2 June 2186 CE when it was ordered to begin assembling in the Artemis Tau cluster for preparation in invading the Batarian Hegemony pre-emptively from the north: at this time, the Alliance had not verified that what they believed to be a Hegemony invasion fleet was actually the vanguard of a Reaper invasion. The Eighth Fleet was hastily warned to reinforce their forces at Earth, but was subsequently forced to withdraw entirely from the area when another Reaper fleet attacked them. The Tsushima was present over Ontarom when another, larger Reaper force ambushed the Eighth Fleet as it attempted to regroup over the planet. In the subsequent battle, the Tsushima was destroyed as it destroyed to cover the retreat of the Nanda Devi.
The ship was named after the Battle of Tsushima of the Russo-Japanese War.
