SSV Somme LD-5 (Light Defense-5) was a Warsaw-class light frigate in the Alliance Navy. The fifth ship to be built when the class was originally conceived, the ship was commanded by Captain Dean Reginald and was attached to Eighth Fleet. In 2175 CE, the Somme, while docked at Port Hanshan on Noveria, was hijacked by batarian slavers, who hoped to enslave the crew and have the ship taken to the Hegemony to be dismantled and researched. However, the Somme had been in the process of transporting two N7s, and as a result, the N7s were quickly able to retake the ship, with the Hegemony government denying all involvement in the attack. In 2185 CE, the ship was dispatched to Horizon to respond to its distress call. In 2186 CE, the ship engaged Reaper forces with the rest of the Eighth Fleet during the Battle of Ontarom, where it was swarmed and destroyed by hundreds of Oculi.
The ship was named after the Battle of the Somme of the First World War.
