SSV Nimitz CD-2 (Carry and Deploy-2) was a Lincoln-class escort carrier in the Alliance Navy. The second ship of her class to be built, the Nimitz was assigned to the First Fleet under Admiral Adina Netanyahu not long after it was commissioned in the last few days of 2165 CE. The Nimitz was one of the initial sixty Lincoln-class ships that were ordered and built for the Alliance Navy, part of the second generation of Alliance warships that were designed and brainstormed following the First Contact War, with the Lincoln-class in particular following a greater increase in focus on producing carriers, with the Lincoln-class being more affordable than the more sophisticated and powerful Nelson-class and Charles de Gaulle-class carriers, and thus was produced in far higher numbers. The Nimitz would follow shortly after the SSV Lincoln, pushed into service with the First Fleet. The ship sat out the Skyllian Blitz, with the First Fleet being held back to defend against a potential batarian thrust towards the Alliance's inner colonies and Earth itself, the Nimitz being part of a larger battlegroup monitoring the Charon Relay. The Nimitz was once again placed in this role during the Eden Prime War, but did not see action. Admiral Netanyahu had all of her carriers perform naval exercises in the 61 Ursae Majoris system in late 2185 CE under the guise of routine training operations, but in reality was trying to prepare for the Reapers, due to Netanyahu and Hackett largely being the only admirals to take Shepard's threats of the Reapers seriously: the Nimitz would naturally be present at these exercises. Netanyahu scheduled more on 10 June 2186 CE, but these were cancelled when the Reapers invaded on 2 June, with the entire First and Third fleets recalled to Arcturus Station to defend it against what Alliance intelligence initially concluded was the main thrust of a batarian invasion. As such, the Nimitz fought in the Battle of Arcturus, but was destroyed during the battle.
The ship was named after Chester A. Nimitz, the famous US fleet admiral who commanded the US Pacific Fleet during the Second World War.
