SSV Conundrum FA-78 (Fast Attack-78) was a Mermaid-class corvette in the Alliance Navy. Out of the 700 Mermaid-class vessels that would ultimately serve in the Alliance Navy throughout the class' life cycle, the Conundrum was the seventy-eighth ship of the class to be commissioned, and was assigned to the burgeoning Seventh Fleet, which had only just been formed a year prior. The majority of the Conundrum's 22 year long career would be spent patrolling the Attican border, with many other ships of its class acting as patrol ships to keep an eye out for pirate or slaver attacks. This task kept the Conundrum from participating in the Skyllian Blitz, but it would not remain unblooded: the actions of its captain and crew helped to foil a Blood Pack attack on Amaterasu, with the corvette taking pre-emptive action to hit the mercenary ship before it could initiate its raid. The ship was then tasked with intelligence gathering and monitoring enemy activity during the Theshaca Raids, a task it shared with fourteen other ships in its task group, with the intel being used by the Alliance Navy to locate eight separate pirate anchorages in the Armstrong cluster and take them out, effectively ending all pirate and slaver activity in the area. The Conundrum was finally reassigned to Feros in 2182 CE, as the Alliance believed the colony was ripe for raiding by mercenary or pirate groups still active in the Traverse. The ship was taken by surprise when a sizable geth heretic task force, spearheaded by Sovereign itself, launched an attack on Feros in 2183 CE during the Eden Prime War. The corvette was no match for the enemy force, and was easily dispatched by the superior geth firepower, with the ship's debris crashing down onto the surface, partially destroying a major skyway linking Zhu's Hope to the ExoGeni headquarters building and killing several colonists. The ship was lost with all hands, the vessel being destroyed by a single volley from a geth heavy cruiser and making it the first casualty of the subsequent Battle of Feros.

The ship was named after Operation Conundrum of the Australian Civil War.
