SSV Cape Town AE-3 (Attack/Escort-3) was a Geneva-class heavy cruiser in the Alliance Navy. The third ship of her class to be built, the Cape Town was assigned to the Third Fleet under Admiral Nitesh Singh before the First Contact War, and then reassigned to the Fifth Fleet under Admiral Steven Hackett following its establishment after the war. The Cape Town was one of the initial thirty Geneva-class ships built following the formation of the Systems Alliance in 2149 CE, being assigned to the Third Fleet shortly after its commissioning to bolster what was, at the time, the Alliance's youngest and least developed fleet. The Alliance had trouble nailing down the purpose for the Geneva-class very early on despite funding its construction, as the ship class was one of the few in the early Alliance fleet that was purpose-built with warfare in mind. This meant that the Cape Town spent much of its early years in dock, with the only activity it saw being its shakedown run and combat exercises meant to test its strengths and limitations. The Cape Town was undergoing its most recent exercise when word of the Relay 314 massacre reached Earth and the First Contact War broke out, leading to a full recall of all Alliance naval assets back to the Sol system. The Cape Town would participate in the Battle of Charon and Second Battle of Shanxi, surviving both battles and managing several kills upon enemy ships. Like all other Geneva-class ships, the Cape Town went through minor upgrades after the war in an attempt to modernize it, and shortly after returning to active service, it was transferred to the then-newly formed Fifth Fleet under Admiral Hackett. In its new posting, the Cape Town would participate in the Skyllian Blitz, taking part in the Battle of the Dhopris System: it was also deployed as a reserve force during the Theshaca Raids to support the elements of the Fifth Fleet dedicated to countering pirate operations in the sector, but it saw no combat.

In 2183 CE, after the outbreak of the Eden Prime War, the Cape Town would be present at the Battle of Armstrong, although its position at the rear of the fleet meant it saw very little action. The Cape Town then returned with the rest of the Fifth Fleet to Mars where the ship and its crew would enjoy some shore leave. When Hackett issued his orders to mobilize the fleet immediately, the Cape Town was among the first ships to respond first. The Cape Town was part of the first wave of Alliance reinforcements at the Battle of the Citadel, where it became one of the many ships lost over the course of the battle, with the Cape Town being overwhelmed by geth return fire whilst saving the ARW Destiny Ascension. The sacrifice of the Cape Town and its crew is noted on the Heroes of the Citadel monument, along with the other ships of the Fifth Fleet that were destroyed saving the Citadel.

The ship was named after the city of Cape Town in the former United States of South Africa on Earth.
