The Revengeance-class stealth cruiser, known during development stages as the Type-A Future Combat Naval System, was a classification of cruiser that served in the Rannoch Republican Navy and Systems Coalition Navy from 2192 CE to 2267 CE. The Revengeance-class was a spiritual successor to the Normandy and Normandy II classes of stealth frigates, utilizing new advancements in technology to create a superior substitute to the vessels. The Revengeance-class was designed for use by the Rannoch Republican Navy and the Systems Coalition Navy, with the ability to perform stealth reconnaissance, but to primarily serve as a capital ship.

The vessel is outfitted with cloaking technology, as well as an arsenal of weaponry that made them some of the most powerful vessels in the Galactic Dominion's military. However, due to the enormous cost associated with the production and maintenance of the vessel, the RNS Revengeance was initially the only vessel commissioned of the class, intended as an advanced prototype. Proving itself in the Border War, the Revengeance-class program was quickly allocated more funding, and by the Post-Apocalyptic War, two more ships had been built. In 2251 CE, further funding was allocated for another two to be built, with the possibility of an order for a sixth, seventh and eighth. However, in the end, only the Audacious had been ready to undergo trials before the outbreak of the Dominion Civil War, with the Valediction's partially constructed hull abandoned pending a return to construction, which never occurred. After the war, the Valediction was scrapped. The remainder of the Revengeance-class vessels that survived the war would continue service in the Unified Galactic Navy until 2267 CE, where it was eventually replaced by its successor, the Crusader-class. The last remaining Revengeance-class vessel, the Pes'tanek, would remain as flagship of Virmire's fleet until finally being replaced by the homegrown Williams-class of ships in 2290 CE.

"Revengeance" is defined as a "furious act of revenge." The term is derived from the need to furiously avenge the death of Commander Shepard and bring about the utopian future he wanted for the galaxy. It was also chosen to specifically denote its affiliation with the Normandy-class, and its unofficial status as a successor.
