"Tergum ut tergum, militibus in nigrum."
— Blitz Corps motto.

The Promethean Blitz Corps, also known as simply the Blitz Corps, was the elite special operations/black ops unit and terrestrial warfare branch of Prometheus. Formed in mid 2201 CE during the Terminian Cold War and a year after the Galactic Dominion was formed, the Blitz Corps was the result of Prometheus' rapid militarization, and followed after Prometheus, initially the intelligence arm of the Systems Coalition, was expanded to become the military intelligence arm of the Galactic Dominion, broadening its membership to quarians and geth. As Prometheus distanced itself from the Coalition and developed as its own independent Dominion-sponsored organization, it went through a process of militarization, developing a small fleet of ships operating under a Prometheus banner and, with the Blitz Corps, a special combat force for terrestrial combat and special operations, supplementing Dominion special forces on the battlefield where needed and acting on its own agenda as well. Initially starting as a small force consisting of four regiments of specialized black ops commandos, trained by both the Coalition's Blue Falcons and Rannoch's Tecr'fer and in some cases even consisting of members pulled from their ranks, the original purpose of the Blitz Corps was intelligence work, black ops and wetwork, all operations dictated by Promethean High Command on Hoffman Station. When the Post-Apocalyptic War broke out, the Blitz Corps increased drastically in size, totaling 45 divisions by war's end. These divisions were a radical departure from Prometheus' original mindset of a dedicated, highly trained and elite special operations unit, with Blitz Corps forces deployed across virtually every theater of conflict the Dominion was involved in. Blitz Corps commandos were called "blitztroopers" or "blitz commandos". Training of the Blitz Corps was conducted at Athena Station, termed "the Bunk" by the blitz commandos who trained there and considered the unofficial home of the Blitz Corps.

Towards the end of the war, Prometheus was responsible for enacting Operation Fire Breather and Operation Taskmaster, both which involved Blitz Corps commandos committing heinous war crimes, rounding up political prisoners for execution, executing deserters and so forth. Blitztroopers largely superceded the roles performed by traditional special forces units, performing wetwork, surgical strikes, assassination, torch-and-burn ops and raids deep behind enemy lines. Blitztroopers were incredibly loyal and their brutal training made them nigh impossible to break, with most directed to commit suicide in the instance of being captured by enemy forces: those that couldn't commit suicide were considered unbreakable, suffering mental and physical torments beyond the tolerance level of most organic beings, but dying without breaking. After the war, the Blitz Corps was immensely downsized to just 2 divisions, numbering 50,000 commandos in active service, with the rest reintegrated into the Coalition and Rannochian militaries. Despite this, the Blitz Corps remained a formidable force, feared throughout the galaxy, and with units deployed across Dominion space, stationed on all three major Dominion homeworlds, important Promethean facilities and black sites, and at the most important Dominion military installations. Deployment of Blitz Corps forces across the galaxy was largely handled by Prometheus' limited naval force, although it was outsourced to other Dominion naval assets where the need arose. The operations of Blitz Corps deployments were largely kept secret from the public and even the Dominion military, with everything, including the exact number of units deployed to a certain area, requiring high level clearance afforded only to the Praetor, Summus Imperator and the Director of Prometheus themselves. The public deployment of a Blitz Corps unit was often a point for speculation, suspicion and concern, but such was their efficiency that they often completed their objectives and left before time was allowed to digest their presence, aiding their moniker of a "blitz" corps. Blitz commandos were frequently outfitted with black-coloured Excalibur power armor, in line with their motto "warriors in black".

Throughout Operation Fire Breather, the Blitz Corps was heavily involved in the location, capture and execution of former members of the Normandy Squad and those previously associated with Commander Shepard, furthering Prometheus' ultimate goal to establish human-quarian dominance across the galaxy and beyond. Many fell victim during this operation, but it was officially called off and cancelled when Shepard and Tali'Shepard wiped out two blitz commando companies by blowing up their house, and with the Dominion Civil War breaking out not long after as a result of Tali leaking Fire Breather to the extranet, as well as other highly classified Prometheus and Dominion documents, the entire Blitz Corps was placed on maximum readiness and deployed across the galaxy. As the war deteriorated for the Dominion loyalists, the Blitz Corps was assigned to harass the DDF wherever they could, hitting supply lines, performing asset denial, assassinating key DDF personnel, evacuating important loyalist personnel and hitting the DDF where it was weakest. One particular Blitz Corps operation involved their German chapter storming the Justizpalast in Munich and rescuing Connor Faringar, the former prime minister of the Coalition prior to his capture by the PGSA. The German blitztroopers attempted to escape with Faringar, but Faringar was recaptured after a fortnight, with the Blitz Corps unit found and cornered by a joint Kommando Spezialkräfte-Blue Falcons raid. As months passed and the loyalists continued to lose ground and following the decisive loyalist defeat at the Battle of Eos, Prometheus acknowledged their precarious situation and ordered all remaining Blitz Corps forces to execute Operation Saturnalia, with the military component, Operation Tinderbox, directed to destroy all remaining military assets and installations, liquidate non-essential personnel and materials, and following successful completion of these objectives, abandon their equipment and weapons, assume new identities, and disappear. Most Blitz Corps operatives followed their assigned orders, with only a few choosing to surrender to the DDF, surrendering the material, personnel and assets they were entrusted with, although many of these ended up dead not long after, either having committed suicide or being assassinated by other Blitz commandos who remained loyal. Once Tinderbox was complete, every remaining Blitz commando either disappeared or was captured and committed suicide: to this day, most former Blitz commandos were left unaccounted for, although many would re-emerge to join Bucephalus in their brief uprising in 2261 CE (all of which would be killed), with only a few being discovered decades later after they were too old to be held accountable. Any records of the disappeared commandos and their personnel files were wiped during Saturnalia.

After the civil war, Prometheus was officially dissolved and the UGR formally declared that the Blitz Corps was a criminal organization, placing bounties on information regarding any suspected Prometheus and Blitz Corps members that would lead to their arrest and sentencing. Many of these bounties would be rendered null and void in 2259 CE when Bucephalus emerged and formed a new Blitz Corps, attempting to restart their organization and rebuild the Dominion, only to be defeated in 2261 CE in just a year in a series of pitched battles. Much of the former Promethean Blitz commandos who joined it were killed, and the remainder would flee into exile after the UGR agreed to a ceasefire with Bucephalus if they agreed to hand over any former Prometheans, which they agreed to in order to keep their organization alive. The new Blitz Corps is a shadow of its former self, representing a fraction of what the Promethean Blitz Corps had been at its height.
