Phoenix is a star system in the Argos Rho cluster. In the asari cycle, Phoenix was colonized by the Salarian Union in 290 BCE, establishing colonies on Tuntau and Vebinok. The system was invaded by the First Rachni Collective towards the end of the Third Rachni War, with the salarians forced to evacuate and abandon their colonies to escape the rachni onslaught, which led to it falling into rachni control. The Tuchankan Empire would later drive the rachni out of the system during the Fourth Rachni War, where it would return into salarian control. The system became the location of Pinnacle Station, a secret command center that was used by the STG to monitor and spy on the krogan during the Renegade Crisis, and later as a operating base for military operations when the Krogan Rebellions broke out. The Turian Hierarchy would establish a military presence alongside the salarians in the system following their entry into the conflict, and would remain until the ratification of the Treaty of Etamis, which forced both them and the salarians to withdraw from the system, and the entire cluster, permanently. The salarians packed up and abandoned their worlds, leaving them uninhabited for centuries.

Phoenix would be used as a haven for criminal activities even after the Systems Alliance colonized Intai'sei in the 2160s, with the former salarian world of Tuntau being used by Tonn Actus' Pirate franchise to store its stolen goods and historical artefacts. The Alliance would greatly expand their military presence in the cluster after the Eden Prime War, which unknowingly saved Intai'sei from being attacked by the Collectors in 2184 CE. Phoenix would be saved from Reaper assault during the Reaper War, and aside from a brief bombardment of Pinnacle Station during the Dominion Civil War, it would remain untouched by conflict for centuries afterwards.
