- "I don't care that you don't love me back. But as long as I continue to love you, I will protect you."
- — Peta'Yala
Mechanic Peta'Tasi vas Nedas (formerly known as Peta'Yala nar Rayya, Peta'Yala vas Neema and Peta'Yala vas Huzzi) was a mechanic on the QMFV Neema and QMFV Huzzi, an exile, and a former Blue Suns mercenary. Born into a relatively minor cadet branch of Clan Zorah, Peta had a moderate-to-severe psychological disorder that made him obsessively compulsive, as well as having social difficulties: although he was incredibly intelligent, he had difficulty making friends, although he very quickly befriended Tali'Zorah and Kal'Reegar as children, where he developed strong romantic feelings for the former. Unfortunately, this crush turned into delusions of destiny, believing he was fated to be with Tali, often ignoring other potential mates in pursuit of her, even when Tali made it clear she wasn't interested. This obsession spiralled out of control when Tali married Marcus L. Shepard in late 2185 CE, leading to a fit of rage that led him to almost kill Tali, and his subsequent exile from the Fleet.
Following his failed attempt on Shepard's life and his exile, Peta became lost, feeling irredeemable guilt for his actions. He ignored the Migrant Fleet's general order to return, believing he had not yet redeemed himself. During the Reaper War, he used his machinist skills to persuade his way into the Blue Suns, who previously only hired turians, humans and batarians, but had agreed to recruit outside of these races due to manpower shortages. Peta'Yala subsequently fought during the Cerberus invasion of the Citadel, but quickly realized he was not suited for combat, and left the Blue Suns shortly after: however, when he heard the Migrant Fleet had become embroiled in a war with the geth, he became fearful for Tali's safety, and attempted to return to Rannoch: along the way, he became aware of a Cerberus plot to abduct Tali to leverage Shepard, and pursued them. It was due to this knowledge that he was able to surprise Randall Ezno's hit squad on Rannoch, granting Legion enough time to convince defecting geth forces to aid them. Unfortunately, he paid for this with his life, with Randall killing Peta before escaping. Peta was honoured for his sacrifice by a posthumous pardon (by request of Tali herself), and buried near Mount Kelle'kar.
