- — Nirali Bhatia's last words
Private First Class Nirali Bhatia (maiden name: Nirali Thakore) was a marine in the Systems Alliance Marine Corps who served on Eden Prime. Born on Eden Prime, Nirali called the planet home, and rarely strayed from it, even finding her future husband within the capital city of Constant, Samesh Bhatia. In response to the Skyllian Blitz, Nirali wanted to do her part to protect her planet from possible batarian attack, and joined the Eden Prime Colonial Guard. Outside of her military profession, she was a talented cook, and Nirali had plans to start up a restaurant when her service in the guard concluded. These plans were put on hold when the Marine Corps offered her enlistment, with access to better equipment and training than the guard could offer, and she accepted their usual five-year service deal. She was only in her third year of service when the colony was attacked by the geth in 2183 CE, with Nirali then assigned to Dog Squad of the 212th Planetary Defense Group. Nirali's unit was hit almost immediately and surrounded by a geth ambush, and when Nirali attempted to send out a distress call, she was shot and killed by a geth sniper, with her squad shortly thereafter wiped out, with only Ashley M. Williams as the sole survivor.
Following the battle, the BADR claimed Nirali's body for use in weapons experiments and research in order to develop countermeasures for geth weaponry, as well as anti-geth weapons of their own. While Samesh Bhatia campaigned repeatedly for his wife's body to be returned to him for burial, he was consistently stonewalled by the DoD, who argued Nirali's sacrifice would be better served by allowing her body to produce countermeasures to stop further massacres. While the DoD received much media criticism for these actions, it would ultimately prove extremely useful: weapons such as the Arc projector were developed from such research, and improved kinetic barrier systems for marines improved their performance against geth, even if it would never truly be applied due to the geth joining the UGC in 2186 CE, and signing a pact of military alliance with humanity shortly after.
Nirali's legacy would be honoured on a more personal level by Samesh himself, who would go on to found the restaurant Nirali wanted to build after her service, with assistance from the community. The restaurant chain would continue to run in Samesh's family for many generations after the fact, even after he remarried in 2187 CE.
