The Naginata sniper rifle was a bolt-action heat sink-based block-fed sniper rifle manufactured by Ariake Technologies. Manufactured and entering service in 2176 CE, the Naginata sniper rifle was an inexpensive sniper rifle designed for military and PMC use, finding service within the Systems Alliance Marine Corps and Systems Alliance Army, as well as other major interstellar militaries. The weapon had a firing rate of one shot every two seconds, with impacting with reasonably high force and moderate accuracy over longer distances, but prone to overheating very quickly if fired too quickly: the weapon's relative lack of recoil however makes it capable of being used on the move, a feature largely absent in other sniper rifles, which mostly require a user to be stationary, prone and equipped with a tripod for stabilization. The sniper rifle was used by Cerberus' commandos prior to them replacing it with their homegrown Titan model, although Cerberus kept a stockpile of the weapon due to its reliability in combat. The weapon was, in design, succeeded by the M-97 Viper following the introduction of thermal clips in 2184 CE, which replaced block-fed weapons wholesale across the entire galaxy following the Battle of the Citadel. No direct successor to the Naginata exists, as Ariake shifted solely to the manufacture of armors and shotguns after 2184 CE.
