The MQ-9E Exoatmospheric Reconnaissance Drone, colloquially known as the Ghost, was a class of drone designed, constructed and employed by the Systems Alliance. First constructed in 2179 CE to replace the obsolete Spectre recon drone, the Ghost possessed a larger radius for scanning, could penetrate nebulae and had a larger fuel cell for longer flights. Unlike many Alliance vehicles, Ghost drones are only implemented and used by the Alliance Navy and Marine Corps. Ghost drones are often attached to forts, as well as to carriers and dreadnoughts. Ghost drones were used during the planning for the the assault on Torfan, and were used during the Eden Prime War, allowing the Alliance to learn of the geth incursion into the Armstrong cluster. Ghost drones were used heavily during the Reaper War, and later during the Border War as well. Their use ended after the New Hellespont Crisis, where they were replaced by the newer Anaconda UAVs.
