- "Coming in with the shock and awe, driven from afar, easily repaired, and in and out before the enemy even know what to do with themselves. That's the Crocodile."
- — Sales pitch for the M34 Crocodile.
The M34 Unmanned Multi-Purpose Combat Vehicle (M34 UMPCV), colloquially named the Crocodile, was a class of multi-purpose combat vehicle that was employed by the Systems Alliance and later also used by the Systems Coalition. Designed and built by Leonidas Defense Systems, the M34 Crocodile was proposed as a multi-purpose combat vehicle, a platform capable of assuming a myriad of roles on the go, and capable of being deployed in numerous environments, ranging from exoatmospheric to amphibious. Utilizing experimental anti-gravity technology, the M34 Crocodile could theoretically travel across any surface, including underwater and in space, whilst maintaining close proximity to a surface. The M34 Crocodile possessed a long-range gauss cannon, a close-range autocannon for use against infantry and with limited anti-armor application, and four missile pods: this array of weapon systems allowed the Crocodile to act as an anti-aircraft, anti-armor and anti-personnel weapons platform on the fly, making it an extremely adaptable and useful vehicle. Despite all of this the Crocodile was expensive to produce, and it would only see use by the marines, although it flourished in this role. The M34 Crocodile performed very well in the Skyllian Blitz and in the Reaper War, demonstrating the value of its hybrid capabilities, especially when needed for quick infantry support, large-scale engagements or to suppress enemy troops during planetary evacuations. The core feature of the M34 Crocodile was that it required no crew, being entirely automated and controllable by an operator hundreds of kilometers away: whilst attempts were made to make it possible for M34s to be controlled from a ship in orbit, not much progress was made and it was ultimately given up.
The M34 Crocodile enjoyed a long service life, even outliving the Alliance as it transitioned into the Coalition, remaining in active service with the Coalition marine corps until finally being phased about completely by 2250 CE, replaced with the M55 Bramble, which took then-obsolete elements of the M34 Crocodile's design and vastly improved upon them, including the added capability to control them from orbit by QEC link. A sizable mothballed fleet of M34 Crocodiles was kept after they were decommissioned, with many more being sold to museums, collectors, PMCs and corporations. Prior to the Reaper War in 2186 CE, Cerberus had managed to build 60 of their own M34s, although all ended up destroyed by war's end. The M34 Crocodile had seen use in the Skyllian Blitz, Reaper War, Border War, Post-Apocalyptic War and the Terra-Rannochian War. Many that had been mothballed by the Coalition were captured and used by the DDF during the Dominion Civil War as well, but they saw limited use due to more M55s being available as the war went on.
The M34 Crocodile was named for the Crocodile shark on Earth, as per the Alliance's naming convention for tanks and other armoured land vehicles.
