The LOKI-class skirmish and defense mech (LOKI-class SDM), also known as the Model C or C-Frame, and more simply known as the LOKI mech or just LOKI, was one of four RAGNAROK-series mech frames manufactured by Hahne-Kedar Solutions. Following the Battle of the Citadel in 2183 CE, the RAGNAROK-series mechs were designed and built by Hahne-Kedar as one of many new types of mechanized, automated forces in the face of the rising security challenges presented by the brazen geth assault on the galaxy's seemingly impregnable capital. The RAGNAROK-series proved to be the most popular and successful, and the LOKI-class was by far the most common and easily accessible of the four frames. The LOKI-class was a small, bipedal mech that was the size of a 6ft human, sporting very light armor and capable of utilizing light to medium sized weaponry such as pistols, submachine guns, shotguns and assault rifles. The VI and CPU housing were situated in the mech's head and chest respectively, and the mechs could be programmed en masse through a central computer mainframe. The LOKI-class had numerous drawbacks, most centering around its lack of mobility and flexibility, making turning and more advanced movement difficult for the mech to pull off, and its light armor meant that standard ammunition could easily neutralize the mech with concentrated fire, as the mech housed only a basic kinetic barrier. However, many of these flaws could be circumvented through the RAGNAROK's signature ability to be open to modification, with numerous different designs for LOKI mechs existing across the galaxy as their customers customized and modified their LOKIs to fit the different duties they were used for. In the case of Cerberus' RAMPART mech, the LOKI was so substantially improved that it performed completely different from its default counterpart, sporting CQB capabilities, advanced armor and assault weaponry, and more advanced programming to be able to perform significantly more complex and sophisticated combat duties. As such, these drawbacks in the LOKI's design were seen as sacrifices made for its affordability, which could be fixed by the customer as they saw fit. The LOKI-class mech was outfitted with a Heimdall-class VI, which Hahne-Kedar specifically designed and programmed specifically to be used as the VIs in their RAGNAROK-series frames.
As it was, the LOKI-class was used in a variety of unique roles and became a staple across the galaxy following its introduction in 2184 CE. LOKIs were often used as security guards, their intimidating red optics and stature making them suitable for deterrence purposes. For combat and military applications, numerous mercenary and private military corporations bought LOKIs in bulk to supplement their own infantry forces, either as cannon fodder or strategic assets, with Eclipse sporting hundreds of thousands of LOKIs in their own arsenals: while LOKIs saw far less use among Council militaries due to their inferiority to the usual soldier in regards to tactics and effectiveness, smaller militaries such as those of the Vol Protectorate and planetary city-states in the Terminus Systems utilized LOKIs to bolster their own ground forces and act as force multipliers. LOKIs were frequently used in a tactical role by law enforcement agencies, especially C-Sec, and criminal gangs would often respond in kind by buying their own LOKIs to counter them. Human colonial populations, especially those in the Terminus Systems that could not rely on the Systems Alliance for protection, would buy a small army of LOKIs to protect their colonies from attack and provide limited law enforcement and crime deterrence. LOKIs were even reported to be used in non-combat roles, stripped of their weapons and armoured housings to be used as personal butlers, labor workers, valets, substitute workers and more. Legions of LOKIs would often be employed by corporations for either security or for use in their corporate wars, as was the case with conflicts such as the War for Garvug. The mech's name, much like all of Hahne-Kedar's mech-related products, is derived from Norse mythology, with the LOKI mech in particular being named after the Norse god of mischief, Loki.
Like the rest of the RAGNAROK-series, the LOKI mech would continue to remain in service right up until after the Post-Apocalyptic War, although by this time it was already becoming obsolete. The Systems Alliance, and later the Systems Coalition, supplementing the losses they took in the Reaper War, employed legions of LOKI mechs using the modified RAMPART design used by Cerberus, which entirely replaced the old LOKI design. In 2218 CE, Hahne-Kedar unveiled the then-new ASGARD-series, which included the LOKI's direct successor, the THOR-class. In 2220 CE, the LOKI-class ceased production and was fully replaced by the THOR-class, and by 2240 CE, very few LOKIs, even the RAMPARTs, remained in service, as it was not only cheaper to simply replace them with THOR frames, but the parts needed to maintain them were no longer even produced by Hahne-Kedar, therefore making maintenance on the LOKIs far too cost-prohibitive to be worth keeping.
