The L-series biotic implants, also known as the L-series biotic amps, was a brand of biotic amps that was invented by Conatix Industries but then proliferated following Conatix's demise and the shutdown of BAaT, with two of Conatix's splinter corporations, Aldrin Labs and Menton Research, taking up the contract to continue producing the L-series implants, competing for each new version. Designed as a biotic amp for use by human biotics, the L-series implants was the brainchild of Conatix Industries, which rose to prominence in the field of researching and understanding biotics after the first known cases began to crop during the rush of Alliance-driven colonization between 2150 CE and 2160 CE. The first version, the L1 implant, was Conatix's first attempt to develop an amp to harness human biotic potential, but after numerous tests run on subjects recovered from accidental exposure sites, the L1 was put on the back burner, as it either resulted in the subject becoming crippled or biotic flare up that ultimately disintegrated the subject from the inside out. Further research would continue however, and after the First Contact War, Conatix developed the L2 implant: now resorting to deliberate eezo detonations to artificially create batches of test subjects, Conatix formed the BAaT program in 2160 CE, utilizing the second generation of test subjects to field test the L2. The L2 was a success, successfully creating the first human biotics, and Conatix later brought in Bruus Vyrnnus, a turian mercenary and veteran of the First Contact War, to instruct the humans on how to use their newfound abilities. BAaT was shut down in 2163 CE following an incident where Vyrnnus was killed by one of the students. Conatix was forced to liquidate not long after, and splintered into numerous splinter companies. From that point forward, research into human biotic potential was handled via military contract and government-funded programs.

In 2164 CE, Aldrin Labs and Menton Research were awarded the government contract to continue production of the L-series. The L2 implants, while a success in finally allowing human biotics to tap into their power, had numerous crippling side effects such as regular intense migraines, and in worse cases, crippling physical pain and insanity. Members of BAaT who were outfitted with the L2s were largely forgotten by the government, reparations for their suffering denied: unable to rid themselves of the implant, many former BAaT members went insane, became terrorists or tried (and failed) to reintegrate into society: one exceptional case was Kaidan Alenko, who joined the Alliance marines and was unfortunate only to suffer migraines. Despite this, the L3 implant was eventually developed by Menton Research and made available in 2173 CE, eliminating the side effects of the L2. Aldrin would later work on the L4, and in 2182 CE Menton began development of the L5, which further improved the L3 and allowed a user to tap into even more of their biotic power. The L4s and L5s would be made available in 2186 CE, just before the Reaper War. The Systems Coalition would later allow a third company, Kassa Fabrication, the contract to develop L-series implants as well, and as the technology continued to evolve and adapt, human biotics only got stronger and stronger as a result. By 2900 CE, the current L-series implant in circulation is the L14.
