- "Ripper, I call him "Ripper". The way he favors that omni-blade...the way he just rips through anyone who gets in his way. Fitting, I think."
- — Kay Vortash regarding the nickname the squad gives to Kaklu Dreon.
Lieutenant Kaklu Dreon (known by Archangel's squad by the nickname Ripper) was a former infiltrator in the Drell Auxiliary Corps and member of Amonkira's Eyes, a self-employed freelance bounty hunter and a member of Archangel's Omega Squad. Born on Kahje, Kaklu chose to uphold the terms of the Compact when he was of suitable age, choosing to join the Exalted Defense Forces as a member of the Drell Auxiliary Corps, where he chose to specialize as an infiltrator. Kaklu would perform numerous clandestine operations for the Hanar Primacy during this time, his success rate getting him noticed by Amonkira's Eyes, the intelligence and special operations branch of the DAC, and he was quickly recruited into their ranks, further honing his skill set and deploying him on even more dangerous missions critical to the security of the Primacy and the drell people. From sabotage to surveillance, Kaklu performed a wide array of missions, some a failure while the majority were a success, and he was highly respected by his peers and superiors, although this job was largely thankless due to the secretive nature of his activities. Kaklu's preferred weapon was an omni-blade, which he became extremely proficient at using, and up close he was lethal with it, making a bloody mess of his targets but extremely thorough. Kaklu would ultimately serve in the Amonkira's Eyes for 21 years until Operation Streetsweeper, a joint Starfish-Amonkira's Eyes operation to shut down an Anti-Compactists terrorist cell went sideways and resulted in an explosion that killed dozens of hanar civilians and eight drell. Kaklu was caught in the explosion, with one of his lungs punctured. While Kaklu's injuries were healed with time, it was deemed that operational recklessness on Kaklu's part had resulted in the mission's failure, but after an investigation conducted by both the Amonkira's Eyes and the hanar Starfish intelligence arm, he was exonerated of all charges. Despite this, Kaklu felt guilty over his part in the operation, believing he could have done more, and that countless hanar and drell civilians died as a result of his hesitation. As a result of a drell's perfect memory and recollection, Kaklu relived the moment over and over again, and it severely impacted his work life. Diagnosed as suffering from severe PTSD, Kaklu was honorably discharged and given a full three years' salary for his service, a verdict Kaklu accepted gratefully.
Now retired, Kaklu spent the next several years of his life on Kahje trying to start a new life, hoping to begin a family and obtain a profession that didn't involve killing. The more he tried to distance himself from his former occupation however, the harder it became, and his life became one of a recluse, isolated from society and creeping ever closer to the inevitability of Kepral's Syndrome crippling him for good. By 2177 CE, he had decided he couldn't continue to live the way that had he had been, and began embracing his former life once more, coming out of retirement. Becoming a freelance bounty hunter, Kaklu left Kahje to accept contracts across the galaxy, performing corporate espionage, sabotage, wetwork and other high profile operations that required his skill set. Living in an apartment on Illium, Kaklu became very proficient at what he did, but still felt a hole in his life that needed to be filled and wasn't able to figure out what it was until 2183 CE when he first heard the reports of Archangel's operations on Omega. Realizing that he wanted to use his skills for good and redeem himself for his failure to save those civilians all those years ago, Kaklu sold his apartment and moved to Omega, where he tracked down Archangel and asked to join his team. Kaklu's infiltration and intelligence background made him second only to Melenis Gaition on the team for being the most qualified member of the team, and he quickly became the team's primary hitman and counter-intelligence agent, infiltrating enemy strongholds and bases, memerizing their layout with perfect clarity and relaying it back to his team. Kaklu's skill with an omni-blade also made him a lethal close range combatant, and he'd frequently operate in tandem with Caity Monteague, the squad's other CQB specialist, infiltrating behind enemy lines to cause havoc and mayhem, with Kaklu's main task often to assassinate hostile commanders to sow confusion, or to act as a runner to pass information between squad elements where radio silence is preferable or an operational prerequisite. He quickly earned the nickname "Ripper" from Kay Vortash for ripping through his enemies like an orange whirlwind, and the name stuck: he also became Garrus' third-in-command behind Lantar Sidonis, entrusting him to lead numerous infiltration operations across the station due to his background lending to his qualification in this role. When the team became divided on whether to continue their war or call it quits and cash in, Kaklu sided with the former, determined to bring an end to the festering misery of Omega.
In July 2185 CE, Kaklu Dreon was in the team's headquarters of the Suri-Kara Hotel with the rest of the team (except for Garrus and Sidonis, the former of which was investigating a lead and the latter doing a supply run) talking with Kay Vortash in regards to beefing up the security of the building, rightfully predicting that their hideout might eventually be compromised, when the Blue Suns and Blood Pack launched a surprise raid on their base, having captured and tortured Sidonis into giving up his team and leading Garrus away on a false lead as bait. Detecting Blood Pack forces moving up through the tunnels before the attack even began, Vortash engaged the mercs while Kaklu tried to warn the rest of the team, only to learn the Blue Suns had already attacked upstairs. Kaklu doubled back with Vortash once their position was overwhelmed, trying to help their comrades upstairs, only for Vortash to be surprised by a vorcha pyro and burned alive before he could raise his weapon. Killing the pyro, Kaklu left his dying comrade just as the flames detonated the grenades on Vortash's belt, causing a series of explosions that killed four more vorcha. Kaklu got upstairs and began fighting his way upstairs, only to find Melenis Gaition falling from the balcony with an arm missing. Kaklu brought down numerous Blue Suns mercs before he was overwhelmed, with Sergeant Ghalle Cathka landing a lucky hit in Kaklu's shoulder, stunning him long enough to be shot by more of the mercs, until Kaklu's body was riddled with bullets. Kaklu, despite all of this, was able to crawl towards the entrance after the mercs thought he was dead, only to find the entrance covered as well, a Blue Suns machine gun team waiting to mow down any squad members trying to escape the massacre. One of them spotted Kaklu and unholstered his pistol, walking up to him and putting a bullet in his head: Kaklu's body was dragged into the base after the massacre so Garrus would find it. Upon returning to the hideout to find his dead squad, Garrus gathered Kaklu's body along with the rest into body bags, lining them up in their living quarters to keep them outside the carnage of the Kima Siege. Garrus was unable to recover Kaklu's body after he was extracted by the Normandy Squad, but later scratched Kaklu's name, along with the names of the rest of his squad, into his eyepiece in an effort to remember them.
