"I don't believe in impossible, sir. I believe in compromise. Humanity was led to believe it was impossible for alien life to exist. We were told it was impossible to achieve FTL travel. I've been told all my life that things are impossible, but I don't believe it for one second. Nothing is impossible, but sometimes compromises are made. Nothing is impossible sir, because it is only a matter of time before it is possible. Today, I'm going to take my entire fleet and meet the turians head on. I've been told by you, by the brass and by the parliament that winning this war is impossible. Today, we'll see if a compromise can be made."
— Garrong to the Systems Alliance Naval Command before taking his forces to meet Septimus Oraka at Charon.

Fleet Admiral of the Navy Joseph Hyeronus Garrong, often nicknamed by his men as the Grizzly Bear of Charon or simply the Grizzly Bear, was an admiral in the Systems Alliance Navy, and the former commanding officer of the entire Alliance Navy from 2157 CE to 2186 CE. Born on Earth, Garrong was famous for defying Alliance orders to lead a large-scale counterattack against invading turian forces, successfully driving them back in one of the largest tactical defeats in Hierarchy history. This victory earned him a position at the head of the Navy, where he was the architect of the Liberation of Shanxi. Garrong was killed in the opening stages of the Reaper invasion of Earth, where initial Reaper bombardment killed him and the entire Vancouver Defense Committee. As such, he was succeeded by Steven Hackett as head of the Navy.
