- "We are turian. No matter the aggressor, we will not be intimidated. We will stand our ground. Palaven has not fallen; the fleet has simply done its job, and now its time for the boots on the ground to have their turn."
- — Irix Coronati regarding the operational failure of Uppercut
Didact Irix Coronati was the Didact of the Navy of Palaven from 2159 CE to 2186 CE. Born on Epyrus, Irix entered the military at age 15 with the intent of becoming a career naval officer. By 2150 CE, he was Prefect of the turian Ninth Fleet, and was one of the first ordered to mobilize after the Liberation of Shanxi in the First Contact War. In 2157 CE, just a month after the war ended, he replaced Barcus Fedorian as Didact of the Navy. He continued to command the turian navy right up to the Reaper War, being one of its most effective commanders. His operational control was first demonstrated in the Eden Prime War, and observed during the War on Taetrus. When the Reapers began their invasion in 2186 CE, Coronati was called upon to act. Devising what would later be called the Fifteen Minute Plan, Coronati managed to strike the first, and one of the only, major blows against Reaper forces, using Reaper weaknesses against them, which were acquired through split second, improvized reconnaissance. Despite this, the Reapers managed to besiege Palaven regardless, and Coronati was forced into a defensive war. He continued his cat-and-mouse maneuvers across the Trebia system, and significantly disagreed with Primarch Victus' defensive strategy.
He was finally cornered with the remnants of the battered Fifth Fleet at the Battle of Datriux, where he was lured into a Reaper trap when he ignored Victus' standing orders and attempted to retake Datriux, which was only guarded by a single Andraste-class capital ship and a few Destroyer-class Reapers. Once he arrived, Reaper reinforcements poured in from behind him, using his own strategy from Uppercut against him: the Reapers used microjumps to launch right into the middle of his formation, smashing his ships with FTL rams, before swarming in and trapping him. Not willing to be outdone, Coronati ordered all the fighters and bombers in his flagship's hangars to be rigged with high explosive nuclear/antimatter payloads and to be sent out into the Reaper fleet. This strike crippled a few of the Reaper capital ships, allowing him time to crash the Solemn Reaper directly into Datriux's surface, destroying the surface-based iridium mining facilities the Reapers had captured, stopping the Reapers from using them.
