— Illusive Man

Jack Harper, more well known by his alias The Illusive Man, was the founder and leader of Cerberus. Born on Earth, Jack Harper was a family man with a interest in politics. He joined the Shanxi Colonial Guard when he was 18, and made quick friends with fellow comrades Eva Coré and Ben Hislop. He fought in the First Battle of Shanxi, as well as during its occupation and eventual liberation. Due to events that followed shortly after, Jack Harper lost his friends to a young Saren Arterius, and came to the conclusion that humanity faces threats that could cripple it. With this in mind, he drew up a manifesto, now known as the Cerberus Manifesto, and released it on the extranet. The Alliance, unable to identify him, dubbed him the "illusive man", and the name stuck, becoming his official alias. Sector Six of the SIA, having read his manifesto, defected and went rogue, tracking down and joining Harper in his rebellion. With this goal in mind, Harper used Sector Six to found Cerberus, with him as their leader. He remained so since then, although his goals afterwards remained unclear: he commanded Cerberus throughout theaters of the Reaper War, but fought both UGC and Reaper forces. This led some to believe him indoctrinated, while others simply believed he was insane. Either way, he was finally cornered at the Battle of Cronos Station, where he was later executed by Marcus Shepard.
