The Hyena-class lifeboat was the standard escape pod used on all ships of the Systems Alliance Navy from 2159 CE to 2191 CE, all ships of the Systems Coalition Navy from 2191 CE to 2226 CE and all ships of the Cerberus Navy from 2164 CE to 2186 CE. They very quickly replaced the Jumpingjack-class following the conclusion of the First Contact War, as the Jumpingjack was designed in a hurry following the establishment of the Systems Alliance in 2149 CE, with the Hyena-class continuing to be in development with the intention of replacing the Jumpingjack once it was ready: during the war, the Jumpingjack-class did its job and performed well, but it lacked many of the capabilities the Alliance wanted with the Hyena, such as the ability to be controlled after deployment and to be compact so as to fit enough on each of their ships whilst still performing to specifications. The lifeboat finally began to replace the Jumpingjack beginning in 2159 CE, and by 2162 CE all Alliance capital ships and smaller warships were equipped with them. The Hyena incorporated many designs the Jumpingjack didn't have, such as maneuvering thrusters and secondary engines for use in controlled flight, a black box, an emergency distress beacon, medium-range transmitter for use in contacting nearby vessels and coordinating with nearby pods, and a moderate strength kinetic barrier for protection. A single Hyena-class lifeboat could house 20 occupants at capacity, with enough clean air and rations to survive for weeks.
The Systems Coalition Navy would continue to employ the Hyena-class well past the Post-Apocalyptic War, until finally retiring and replacing it with the newer Savior-class across their entire fleet.
