The Hydra light combat armor was a ceramic-based protective light combat armor manufactured by Aldrin Labs. Manufactured and entering service in 2166 CE, the Hydra armor was designed for use by the general public, using cheaper materials and minimalizing production costs in order to create the most commercially available armor on the market, allowing any citizen with enough credits to own their own personal hardsuit and protective armor. Initially only built for humans and asari, an anti-ballistics combat mesh variant was built for quarians down the line, used almost entirely by pilgrims, with Tali'Zorah using the Hydra mesh during the early days of her own pilgrimage in 2183 CE. Being light armor, it had low damage protection and was outfitted with somewhat weak kinetic barriers, but was extremely flexible and lightweight. The Hydra armor would be one of the few pre-2184 CE armors to survive, with Aldrin Labs continuing to manufacture the armor, arguing that, given its for civilian use, there was no need to replace it with the newer steel-plate armors. The Hydra armor would finally be phased out in 2188 CE however, replaced by the Minotaur light combat armor also made by Aldrin Labs.
