The Hastati-class security drone, model classification Defense Unit JT-04, was a classification of drone designed and invented by Jormangund Technologies and contracted to the Systems Alliance military. Designed by Jormangund, the Hastati-class is a type of security drone specialized for harsh environments and tight confines. The Hastati-class is also outfitted with an array of ballistic rockets and heavy machine guns, allowing it to make short work of enemy troops. It can also link up with other drones, allowing them to combine en masse to create a sort of "phalanx" type shield wall, allowing them, in packs, to take full advantage of a choke point, and to even trap an enemy unit: this exact design specification is what earned it the name "Hastati". Often deployed at forts and other key Alliance installations, Hastati-class weren't deployed as combat units until the Reaper War, where they were reconfigured into the Triarii-class variants.

Following the Reaper War, the Hastati-class, along with its Triarii "war variant", were rapidly decommissioned. These mothballed units were quickly brought up en masse by the newly created Red Sky for use in their forces. The unit was finally decommissioned by Red Sky, and replaced with the Legionnaire-class.
