"I am a warrior without clan. A warrior without clan is a warrior without purpose. I served the Blood Pack looking for new purpose, but Weyrloc Garm is no true krogan...he is a pathetic little creature who desires servitude from minions, not warriors. Give me a weapon again and I'll serve you loyally. You have no reason to trust me, but trust my hatred."
— Grundan Krul during his appeal to Garrus Vakarian to join his team.

Derbavt Grundan Krul was a former member of the extinct Clan Grundan, a warrior serving the Tuchankan Reformists, a mercenary working for the Blood Pack and a member of Archangel's Omega Squad. Born on Tuchanka 400 years after the Krogan Rebellions ended, Grundan Krul was a member of a dying clan, with Clan Grundan having been hit hard by the genophage over the centuries, and their dwindling numbers only made worse by the constant civil wars raging across the planet. Fighting for the Reformists, Grundan Krul was raised believing firmly in krogan values, but also wanting their species to move forward, with Clan Grundan's very survival depending upon it, and as the Tuchankan Traditionalists were diametrically opposed to this, they were his enemies, and Krul would show them no mercy on the field of battlefield of battle. By the time Krul was 150, a child by krogan standards, he had completed his rite of passage and fought in dozens of battles with the Traditionalists, quickly becoming well versed in war and combat, with his favored weapon being a flamethrower and a submachine gun, with Krul often one of the most Reformist troops to take up a vanguard, charging head on into enemy positions. Over the centuries, Krul accumulated numerous scars and injuries as milestones of his achievements, permanent evidence of his accomplished career in warfare. He would ultimately lead many Grundan forces in battle, what few there were, but for the most part, due to the clan's fragility and inability to maintain steady numbers, were mostly kept in the reserve, with Krul putting himself on the front lines where the fighting was while his warriors were held back as a mop up crew if victory was guaranteed or as reinforcements. Krul's prestigious record and the survival of his clan was brought to a brutal end at the final battle of Kitack's War, where the Reformists were decisively defeated by the Traditionalists and their forces almost completely wiped out: during the battle, the Traditionalists tricked the Reformists into committing their reserves and then cut them off and surrounded them and, as a result, Clan Grundan's warriors were all killed, with only Krul, albeit badly wounded, managing to escape alive. With his clan destroyed, Grundan was declared clanless, and as the clanless have no place in krogan society, Krul was forced to flee Tuchanka or be killed by his Reformist kin.

Having no clan and no place in the wars on his homeworld, Krul never returned to Tuchanka and instead sought work as a mercenary. A veteran of a hundred battles, Krul was prime stock for the Blood Pack, and the krogan-dominated PMC were eager to accept him into their ranks, regardless of his clanless status. Assigned to their Omega chapter, Krul served directly under Weyrloc Garm, and while he harbored disdain for Garm, he saw little to no other options available to him, so he accepted his role and fought with the Blood Pack in numerous battles with their enemies, including other PMCs. When Archangel appeared on the station, setting up a team and waging war on crime across the station, Blood Pack included, Krul was placed in multiple situations where he encountered the vigilante squad, each time being one of, if not the only, survivor of a Blood Pack unit that fell victim to an ambush or was trapped in a one-sided combat situation. Already despising Garm, and realizing Archangel's team might provide the honor and purpose to his existence that he had been coveting ever since he fled Tuchanka hundreds of years ago, Krul deliberately laid down his weapon and surrendered during another ambush by Archangel's team, making his plea to the vigilante squad for him to join them, arguing that if the turian can't trust him, he should trust his hatred for Garm. Deciding to give Krul a chance, and viewing having a krogan on the team as a valuable asset, Garrus accepted Krul's plea and the krogan abandoned the Blood Pack, joining the vigilantes. The squad were slow to trust however, and for months the team treated Krul with suspicion and distrust, but slowly warmed up to him as he proved his loyalty to their cause, eventually permitting him to take part in ambushes on Blood Pack forces. Utilizing Krul's knowledge of Garm's operational philosophy and behavior, as well as how Blood Pack fights and their tactics, the team was made even more effective against Blood Pack forces, even able to predict them in numerous circumstances, which only furthered the team's trust of Krul. While Krul didn't like some of the "weaker" members of the team, such as Makk'Veshli and Sensat Aben, he respected their abilities and came to view them as family in lieu of the clan he lost. When the team became divided between continuing their war or cashing in their chips and calling it quits, Krul voted to continue, not wanting to stop until he himself could kill Garm and end the Blood Pack.

In July 2185 CE, Grundan Krul was in the team's headquarters of the Suri-Kara Hotel with the rest of the team (except for Garrus and Sidonis, the former of which was investigating a lead and the latter doing a supply run) was in the kitchen cooking food when the Blue Suns and Blood Pack launched a surprise raid on their base, having captured and tortured Sidonis into giving up his team and leading Garrus away on a false lead as bait. Krul was in the kitchen when the attack opened with a series of rocket attacks and grenades tossed through windows, Krul immediately kicked into action and began assaulting the mercs as they breached the hotel. Retreating from his position, Krul brandished his enormous combat knife and went on a stabbing spree, being shot so many times that his blood rage kicked in, only making him even more ferocious. As his teammates fell, Krul only grew more angry and vicious, having created a growing pile of corpses across the lounge, a river of blood following his rampage. Krul would be the last member of the team in the ambush left standing, with the mercs having ceased their attack and simply surrounding him. Krul, realizing his new family lay dead, shouted for Garm to face him, hoping to avenge his team by taking Garm down with him. Garm answered Krul's call, but instead of fighting Krul in a fair fight, he fired his shotgun into the krogan's unarmoured stomach. Despite his intestines spilling out of his belly, Krul found the strength to charge forward and drive his knife deep into Garm's shoulder, enraging the krogan. Garm, enraged by the injury, bashed his shotgun across Krul's face proceeding to empty shot after shot into the krogan's corpse until he was out of ammo. Upon returning to the hideout to find his dead squad, Garrus gathered Krul's body along with the rest into body bags, lining them up in their living quarters to keep them outside the carnage of the Kima Siege. Garrus was unable to recover Krul's body after he was extracted by the Normandy Squad, but later scratched Krul's name, along with the names of the rest of his squad, into his eyepiece in an effort to remember them.
